I also feel proud, energized, and hopeful as diverse groups of people stand up and protest the systemic inequities and oppression that Black people have suffered for hundreds of years. Our team has been working remotely for just over 10 weeks. We’ve adapted our services to be offered remotely so that we can continue to support families with the urgent help and guidance they need through this crisis.

very April, the Napa County Child Abuse Prevention Council (CAPC) commemorates Child Abuse Prevention Month by bringing awareness to this important issue and raising funds to help keep children safe. Led by Cope Family Center and comprised of representatives from nonprofit organizations, the faith-based community, and law enforcement and government agencies, CAPC coordinates Napa County’s efforts to prevent and respond to child abuse and neglect.

Cope Family Center, which manages the Napa County Triple P (NCTP) Collaborative, announced that the California Legislature proclaimed January 2020 as Positive Parenting Awareness Month by the California Legislature. Positive Parenting Awareness Month highlights the importance for parents and caregivers to develop warm, nurturing relationships with their children and teens and become more confident as parents.

We had a great time at our Annual Volunteer Appreciation Party earlier this month. In addition to celebrating all our wonderful volunteers from the past year, we recognized three in particular for their extraordinary dedication.

The Greater Bay Area Child Abuse Prevention Council Coalition works to advocate for the well-being and safety of children. As specialists in this field, it is our responsibility and privilege to advocate for the care and safety of children and the families they rely upon, in every community.

After an 11-year hiatus, Cope Family Center returned to a Celebrity Waiter format for its gala fundraiser, held on May 10th. The Blue Plate Special included both a silent and live auction, plus reception activities, table games, and spontaneous additions, all largely conceived and produced by the Waiters themselves.

Each April, Cope Family Center commemorates Child Abuse Prevention Month by bringing awareness to this important issue and raising funds to help keep children safe.  In Napa County in 2018, Child Welfare Services received 1,622 reports of abuse or neglect of which 149 cases involving 242 children were substantiated.

Every April, we commemorate Blue Ribbon Month County by raising awareness for the issue of child abuse and neglect. It is important that we, as a community, better understand the issue of child abuse so we can work together to keep children safe and build a strong and nurturing community.

In honor of Child Abuse Prevention Month, Cope Family Center, the lead agency for the Child Abuse Prevention Council of Napa County (CAPC), is kicking off a month-long awareness campaign with an emotional display and short ceremony at Napa City Hall. The community is invited to attend the public ceremony on Thursday, April 4, 4:00-5:00 to learn more about the issue of child abuse and demonstrate their commitment to keeping children safe.

Life hasn’t been easy for Isabel, a Napan and mother of five children under age 10.

Isabel, who is 37, has struggled with alcohol addiction. As a child, she endured trauma including sexual and other abuse. She also suffers from depression and anxiety.

At one point, after a fight with her husband, Isabel was arrested and charged with domestic battery. She had to move out of the family home temporarily, effectively becoming homeless. Child Protective Services got involved.

Cope Family Center announced they have recently expanded services across their programs including parent education and drop-in crisis support. “Our goal has remained steady over the years,” said Executive Director Michele Grupe. “We are here to help parents manage the demands of parenting and life’s challenges so they can give their children a secure, loving and healthy home. But the stressors that parents face have changed over time, and as a result, our programs continually evolve to best meet the needs of families.”

Cope Family Center, which manages the Napa County Triple P (NCTP) Collaborative, announced that January 2019 has been proclaimed Positive Parenting Awareness Month by the Napa County Board of Supervisors. The Triple P – Positive Parenting Program (Triple P) offers proven strategies that strengthen relationships with children and prevent and manage a full range of parenting challenges.

For over 20 years, Cope Family Center has been privileged to have the support of the Napa Valley Vintners (NVV), having received over $3 million of Auction Napa Valley proceeds in that time. This generosity has transformed the lives of thousands of children and their families and helped build a stronger community for all. NVV recently announced their support will continue in 2019 with a grant of $400,000.

I have been a Home Visitor and Parent Educator at Cope Family Center since 1994 and have been supporting children and families for even longer than that.

After five wonderful years, Cope’s annual Holiday Glam & Giving fundraiser is being retired. This beloved event was hosted at The Meritage Resort from 2013-2017*, bringing together over 400 guests every year in support of Cope Family Center’s child abuse prevention and family support services.
