Personal Preparedness
This is what you can do to prepare for outages:
Charge your phone
Ensure that you and each person in your household has a flashlight that works well and have extra batteries
Gas up your car(s) (gas stations don’t work during a power outage)
Get enough cash from the bank to pay for any expenses during the next 5 days (even if stores are open, credit card machines may not work)
Get enough water for you and your family for the next 5 days
Stock up on 5 days’ worth of food that doesn’t need to be refrigerated
For refrigerated food you need to access frequently or to keep refrigerated medication accessible, put it in an ice chest filled with ice. Try not to open your fridge or freezer once the power goes out to preserve the cold in there as long as possible.
