Every April, Cope Family Center and the Child Abuse Prevention Council of Napa County (CAPC) commemorate Blue Ribbon Month to raise awareness about child abuse and the effects it has on the victims and our community. During difficult times, it is especially critical that we come together to protect vulnerable children.
When families struggle, children suffer.
Over the past several years, our community has struggled with unprecedented hardship. Climate disasters, social unrest, an increased cost of living, and increasing political tensions have caused many in our community to experience fear and confusion. These issues on top of the everyday challenges of raising a family can put children at greater risk of maltreatment.
Last year there were 109 substantiated victims of child abuse and neglect. This number is likely closer to 400, because child abuse is greatly under reported. Let’s work together to protect children through these uncertain times and always.
