Welcoming Coats and Guerrero to Cope’s Board of Directors

Cope Family Center is pleased to announce the election of Dell Coats and Dr. Alejandro “Alex” Guerrero to its Board of Directors.

Coats holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Sonoma State University and is credentialed as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and Certified Internal Auditor (CIA). His career spans two decades in public accounting and nonprofit financial oversight, and he currently serves as the Director of Internal Audit for Partnership HealthPlan of California.

He is also a U.S. Army veteran, having served six years on active duty, and he completed his tour at the Presidio of San Francisco.

Coats last served as a member of Cope’s Board in 2010, spending terms as both Treasurer and Board Chair. He returns to the Board with extensive experience in governance, financial oversight, strategic planning, and organizational stewardship.

“I strongly believe in Cope’s mission to empower parents, nurture children, and strengthen

our community. I am committed to helping the organization continue to grow and thrive,

and I’m excited to support their mission through continued Board leadership.”

Dr. Guerrero holds a Bachelor of Arts in Cultural Anthropology from University of California, Davis, a Master of Social Work from Sacramento State University, and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership, with a focus in social justice and equity, from San Francisco University.

He began his career at Sonoma State University as an Outreach Advisor for the College Assistance Migrant Program (CAMP), where he helped students of migrant farm-working backgrounds access and navigate higher education. He later coordinated the Puente Human Services and Addiction Studies Program at Napa Valley College.

Dr. Guerrero currently leads Napa Valley College Student Affairs as the Assistant Superintendent Vice President of Student Affairs, and he teaches graduate courses in Educational Leadership at San Francisco State University. As an administrator, his leadership and decision making are “grounded in social justice, purpose, compassion, and relentless care for the community.”

“We are thrilled to welcome Dell and Alex to our Board of Directors,” said Millie Binz, Cope Board President. “Their expertise, commitment to the community, and understanding of the challenges of raising a family in Napa Valley will be invaluable to strengthening our impact across the county.”

“Dell’s deep financial expertise and Alex’s leadership in advancing educational access and equity make them exceptional additions to our work. With strong roots in the community and a shared commitment to creating a stronger Napa Valley, they will help us strengthen and expand access to vital resources and support for families.”

Cope Family Center has been a cornerstone resource for families in Napa County for more than 54 years, offering a continuum of programs including the Family Support Hub, Parenting Classes, Home Visiting, and Advocacy and Civic Engagement. The election of Coats and Guerrero to the Board strengthens Cope’s inclusive leadership and ensures that the lived experiences of families remain at the heart of its decision-making.
