APRIL IS NATIONAL CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION MONTH
Every April, Cope Family Center and the Child Abuse Prevention Council of Napa County (CAPC) commemorate Blue Ribbon Month to raise awareness about child abuse and the effects it has on the victims and our community. During times of crisis, it is especially critical that we come together to protect vulnerable children.
When families struggle, children suffer.
Following the 2017 wildfires, the child abuse rate in Napa County shot up. Parents struggled with fear, confusion and financial hardship, and the stress had a terrible impact on their children.
Over the past three years, we have experienced the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, social unrest, and now, the war in Ukraine and rising global tensions. These issues on top of the everyday challenges of raising a family can put children at greater risk of maltreatment.
Last year there were 159 substantiated victims of child abuse and neglect. This number is likely closer to 500, because child abuse is greatly under reported. Let’s work together to protect children through these uncertain times and always.
Everyone has a role in preventing child abuse and neglect. There are many ways you can get involved to help raise awareness and funds for child abuse prevention in our community. Click to find out more below.
These campaigns and activities are lead by Cope Family Center and the Child Abuse Prevention Council of Napa County.
