FAMILY ECONOMIC SUCCESS

The Family Economic Success Program program is designed to assist families in achieving sustainable financial health through education, skill building and financial supports. Cope Family Center works with the county's other Family Resource Centers (in American Canyon, St. Helena, and Calistoga) to provide services to families throughout the county. Currently there are four program components that work individually and collectively to help families move up the rungs of the economic ladder.

Financial Education Classes
Cope's financial and consumer education classes and workshops are designed to improve financial literacy, increase money management skills and encourage wise financial habits.

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance
The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) clinic provides free tax preparation services for eligible families and is designed to ensure that these families claim all applicable federal and state tax credits. The VITA clinics are offered from January through April every year at locations throughout the county.

Individual Development Accounts
Individual Development Accounts (IDAs) are matched savings accounts designed to help eligible families acquire high-return assets such as a home, a small business, or postsecondary education. We currently have participant spaces available for our 2-for-1 savings accounts.

Resource and Referral
This information is shared with families during drop-in visits to the Resource Centers and during home visits by the Home Visitation teams. A family's eligibility for support services is assessed, and through a guided referral system, families are able to access resources of which they may have been unaware.

By approaching a family's financial health from many aspects, the Family Economic Success program provides families with a variety of tools to use as they work toward financial prosperity. From tangible income in the form of tax refunds to education and skills developed in our financial education classes, the FES program components powerfully complement and build upon each other.
